Being a service providers and an active members in few SEO communities, I frequently come across a simple question/complaint:
“My rankings has suddenly dropped though I have not made any changes. Why did that happened?”
So I thought I would share my generic reply:
“Your rankings has dropped because you didn’t do anything, whereas your competitors and Google did!”
In a Google Webmaster Help thread John said:
Fluctuations like this can be normal – the algorithms don’t stand still and use many signals to review & determine the relevance of pages & sites. Looking at it just now, it seems that it may just have come back again :). That said, working to improve the overall quality of a website is always a good thing. If this is currently one of your busier times, then it might make sense to do that a bit afterwards – but I’d definitely think about what you could do to get feedback from users (customers or not) already.
So small fluctuation in rankings is quite normal now. Barry Schwartz, CEO of RustyBrick also said this:
Google’s algorithms don’t stand still, neither should you.
But if you see considerable drop in traffic then that is something worth reviewing critically. There could be 2 main reasons why your rankings may have dropped:
Google keeps on making tweaks to their algorithm, they make tweaks to the algorithm hundreds of time in a year. And all the changes are not announced by them.
Apart from Algorithmic update, Google also has a manual SPAM checking team who may have given manual penalty to a website.
In such cases, it is advisable to consult reputed SEO Professionals (You can contact us too ???? ).
In short, what I want to convey is don’t stand still, keep on putting efforts to increase quality of website and you’ll certainly be stable or see improvements in your rankings.
SEO is an on-going process, initially we need to put efforts to increase rankings and then put double efforts to maintain them.
Be ready to adapt changes immediately!
